Council venues say ‘I do’ to wedding success

WEDDING bookings in Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre have trebled within two financial years, a report has revealed.

Councillor Ross Moreland (Liberal Democrat, Dunoon), the council’s policy lead for commercial services, has reported an increase from nine in the 2024/25 financial year to 15 in 2025/26, and then to 27 in 2026/27.

Kilmory Castle in Lochgilphead, where Argyll and Bute Council is based and holds its core committee meetings, is also reported to be increasing in prominence as a wedding venue, with celebrations having been held.

The details feature in Councillor Moreland’s policy lead report which will go before the full council at its meeting on Wednesday, June 24.

He said: “The weddings and events within the Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre continue to deliver strong commercial growth and positive outcomes for Argyll and Bute Council, whilst supporting wider strategic priorities around economic growth, tourism and community partnership working.

“Wedding bookings have increased significantly from nine weddings in 2024/25 to 15 weddings in the last financial year, with a further 27 weddings already secured for the current year, demonstrating the growing popularity and reputation of the venue.

“This growth has been supported by a substantial increase in social media engagement and positive word-of-mouth promotion generated through successful events and strong partnerships with local suppliers, many of whom actively recommend the venue to prospective couples.

“The increasing number of weddings continues to generate income for the venue whilst also delivering wider economic benefit to the local area through collaboration with local businesses, accommodation providers and hospitality services.

“The continued growth locally reflects changing wedding trends, with couples increasingly seeking more affordable, relaxed and less formal celebrations, an area in which the Helensburgh and Lomond Civic Centre has successfully established a strong niche offering.”

He added: “Kilmory Castle in Lochgilphead has also being promoted and packages created to host weddings, civic ceremonies and other events.

“A dedicated social media presence has been created and will be building upon the successful growth in events. A number of successful celebrations have been held in the chambers and surrounding grounds.”
