PLANS for a self-catering accommodation unit on Mull have been given the go-ahead despite four objections from the public.
Nicola Turner applied for planning permission from Argyll and Bute Council for the bothy at Seabrae, on Argyll Terrace in Tobermory.
Concerns were voiced by objectors about parking arrangements, as well as changes to the residential character of the property, and noise and disturbance.
However, the council’s planning officers have now approved the application, saying that the proposal is suitable.
An official said in a handling report: “Planning permission was granted in 2024 for alterations to, and the change of use of, the outbuilding to form ancillary accommodation with associated landscaping works and the formation of new door opening to rear of the host dwellinghouse.
“The building was previously used for storage, and following the recent granting of planning permission, is being redeveloped.
“This current application now seeks consent for the change of use of the outbuilding to form self-catering accommodation for short-term letting purposes.”
Addressing an objection relating to noise and disturbance, the officer also said: “The council’s environmental health service has been consulted on the application and advised of no objections.
“Given the small scale of the proposed development, it is not considered that the development proposed within this application would lead to anti-social behaviour.
“However, the applicant should ensure that sufficient management procedures are in place to ensure that there would be no noise nuisance to the neighbouring properties.
“A suitable condition is therefore proposed to secure the provision of a noise management plan. A condition is also proposed in relation to the provision of external lighting at the site, so as to protect the amenity of the area.”
The report added: “It is considered that the site would present a suitable location for an appropriately scaled tourism development that would meet the needs of the applicant and contribute to the local economy whilst respecting the existing community and surrounding natural and built environment.”
