The highlight of the recent action, however, was the Royal Hotel Trophy, which attracted more than 40 players for the club’s biggest competition of the year.
Played in ideal conditions, the competition produced some outstanding golf, with Andrew Barton of Cowal Golf Club taking the Royal Hotel Trophy for the best gross score.
Barton carded a sensational 66 featuring 12 pars and two birdies. Innellan’s McBride was second with a superb 69, including five birdies, while clubmate Brian Emery finished third with 70 after recording 10 pars and a birdie.
The Tom Muir Quaich for the best net score went to McBride, who produced a superb 58.
Innellan’s Simon McMahon was second with 60 after initially leading in the clubhouse, while club president and head greenkeeper Billy McLaughlin finished third with 61.
The club said it was a great day of golf and thanked its greenkeepers for having the course in such excellent condition.
Thanks were also given to the volunteers who helped make the event a success, including Ian Kennedy, who kept the scores throughout the day, and Douglas Wright, who ensured players started in an orderly fashion. Others helped with raffle tickets and entertained those in the clubhouse.
The club also thanked Cowal Building and Plumbing Supplies for its continued support and sponsorship.
Congratulations went to Barton and McBride, whose names will now be added to the respective trophies.
