Jura road resurfacing trial to begin

COUNCIL workers are set to trial a new method of road resurfacing on Jura shortly, a report has said.

Sections of road north and south of Craighouse are set to be worked on with delayed set surfacing works, with the regular asphalt not available due to travel restrictions.

A report from Argyll and Bute Council’s roads and infrastructure services department also gives an update on roadworks in Campbeltown which will last over six days.

The document, dated Friday, June 26, said: “Final preparations are being made this week for the deferred delayed set surfacing works to commence next Monday on Jura.

“The programme will see sections of road both north and south of Craighouse resurfaced using a delayed set material.

“The Kintyre roads team will be supporting colleagues on Jura to deliver the works and trial this surfacing method, which offers a practical solution for island locations where the transportation of conventional hot asphalt is not feasible due to travel times.

“If successful, the approach could provide a valuable option for maintaining road surfaces on Jura and other harder to reach communities.

“BEAR Scotland has confirmed that overnight resurfacing works on the A83 through Campbeltown will take place between July 5 and 10, subject to weather.

“Works will be undertaken at a number of locations, including Kinloch Road, Millknowe Road and Hall Street, with overnight traffic management measures including temporary traffic signals, convoy working and road closures with hourly amnesty periods. The works are intended to improve road condition and safety.”

The report added: “Strengthening and resurfacing works at Laphroaig has been ongoing this week.

“Surface dressing operations have now concluded in Kintyre with the B842, B843, Low Askomil and Glenbarr being treated.”
