STRACHUR-DUNOON returned to winning ways on Saturday with an emphatic home victory over Aberdour at Dunoon Stadium.
Back in league action and looking to respond after successive defeats, the hosts produced a composed display to claim the points against an Aberdour side they had struggled against in previous meetings.
Despite controlling possession for long spells early on, Strachur-Dunoon initially found it difficult to test the visitors’ goalkeeper.
The breakthrough eventually came approaching the half-hour mark when Sandy Paterson finished neatly from his back-hand to put the home side ahead.
There was further encouragement shortly afterwards as debutant Cluanie Fraser marked his return to shinty in style, doubling the advantage with an excellent finish.
Fraser was making his first appearance after spending a year away from the sport and enjoyed a solid afternoon on the wing.
Although Strachur-Dunoon continued to dominate possession, they lacked a cutting edge in front of goal during the opening period.
Changes at half-time helped sharpen the attack, with Duncan Smart and Roddy Cairns introduced at full-forward to provide a focal point.
The move paid off quickly as Smart netted his fourth goal of the season before his upcoming return to the Netherlands.
Goal of the day followed soon after courtesy of Kyle MacMartin, whose shot on the turn flew into the net.
Cairns then put the game beyond doubt with an impressive spell in front of goal, scoring a hat-trick in just over ten minutes and causing constant problems for the Aberdour defence.
Credit was given to the visitors for their battling performance throughout and they nearly found a consolation late on, only for Nathan Morris to deny them from the penalty spot with an excellent save.
Strachur-Dunoon’s man of the match award went to Ollie Adrian following an influential display at half-back.
The club praised Adrian’s performance, highlighting his control of play and defensive contribution throughout the contest.
After the match, the squad also thanked The Burgh Bar in Dunoon for its continued post-match hospitality.
Strachur-Dunoon now have a short break before returning to action on July 18, when they are scheduled to host Uddingston in the Colin Cameron Memorial Quaich.
