Toward Seasports Club round off Kyles series

OVER THE past week the last race in the current series concluded at Toward Seasports Club.

There was a strong wind blowing in from the West and some crews decided not to go out before they even reached the water, but a few set off with sails up towards start line then turned tail back to mooring when they saw gusts coming in of 27 knots.

There were the intrepid two Oppies – Kittiwake and Puffin, the Pico, Still Game and Saorsa – who all started the race. The Pico had a flying start, closely followed by Still Game, but Saorsa was slower off the mark with new crew and reefed sails.

Still Game rounded the first mark and stayed in the lead for the rest of the race, Saorsa passed the Pico but on the down wind legs the Pico gave chase nearly planning across the waves.

There was a shortened course for the dinghies. to the delight of the sailors who were using all their strength to keep upright and not end up in the water. The oppies had a close race staying beside each other all the way.

Full results

1, – Still Game (K McDonald); 2, – Saorsa (A Finlay).

1, – Pico (E Judd).

1, – Kittiwake (J McLean Morton); 2, – (C Draper).
