PEOPLE across Argyll and Bute interested in a career in policing are being invited to find out more at a series of recruitment events taking place across the region next month.
Police Scotland will host an online recruitment event on Thursday, August 20, giving prospective applicants an insight into policing in rural communities and guidance on the application process.
Recruitment officers will also be visiting several community events with the Police Scotland recruitment van, including Campbeltown Lifeboat Gala Day on Saturday, August 1, Ardrishaig Gala Day on Saturday, August 15, and the Bute Highland Games on Saturday, August 22.
Among those encouraging people to consider a policing career is Lochgilphead-based Constable Neil MacLeod, who has served with Police Scotland for 18 years after previously working in the fish farming industry.
He said: “When I decided to join the police, I was standing on the edge of the fish farm cage in the pouring rain and howling winds and thought to myself ‘I wanted more’.
“My morals and the way I live my life mirror the priorities of the police and I am a proud police officer. I strive to promote a positive attitude, and I want people to trust us as a service through my actions. That’s what I try and impart upon probationers.
“If you’re thinking about joining, you’re halfway there. It is an incredible job and one you can give your all to. Argyll and Bute has so much to offer whilst honing your policing skills. Due to its diversity and huge geographical area, every day is a new day to learn.”
Chief Inspector Alan Mulholland, of Police Scotland Recruitment, said the force is keen to attract people from rural communities who can bring a range of skills and life experiences to the role.

Rural and remote communities have a wealth of local talent, with individuals bringing valuable transferable skills, knowledge and life experience that make an excellent foundation for a career in policing.
