New sand play area proves a hit at Port Bannatyne beach

CHILDREN visiting Port Bannatyne beach have a new place to play thanks to a thoughtful community effort.

A local resident decided to create a dedicated sand play area after noticing youngsters playing on the beach opposite their flat. The idea was to provide a supply of clean sand for children to enjoy using the buckets and spades already available in a community toy box.

With the help of Cowal Builders, who quickly donated and delivered a tonne of sand, an old dinghy destined for disposal was given a new lease of life as a giant sandpit.

The sand was shovelled into the boat and, within minutes, four young girls were happily digging, building and playing.

The resident said they were hugely grateful to Cowal Builders for their prompt and generous support, adding that the project had made a real difference to families using the beach.

The simple initiative has already proved a popular addition to the waterfront, providing children with another reason to enjoy Port Bannatyne beach this summer.
