ROTHESAY BRANDANES got their Caledonian League Premier Division season underway with a match-up against top half finishers Bannockburn.
The game started pretty evenly with both teams enjoying good spells of possession, but neither side were able to create any clear cut chances early on.
However, Bannockburn eventually broke the deadlock after a period of high pressure as a flick on from a throw in was headed home on the 33rd minute–the best either side could produce in the first period.
But the second-half started off well for the home side, with the Dane’s creating more and more chances but just lacking a clinical edge in front of goal.
And the suckerpunch came on the 68th minute as Bannockburn claimed their second goal against the run of play. After a quick break down the right-hand side, the ball was cut back across the box where a low shot from the centre midfielder squirmed under the Brandanes keeper, Willie Lawrence, for 2-0.
But the Danes made some changes and continued to press, and they were finally rewarded on the 89th minute after a good run from Luke Tritschler saw his shot bounce around in the box before falling to Sean Lawrence to slot home.
Unfortunately for the islanders, there just wasn’t enough time to complete the comeback and the ref called full time shortly after the restart.
Attention now turns to this Saturday opponents, as the squad travel to face last year’s runner-up, St. Patrick’s FPFC.
