COUNCIL officials hope to award a contract for repair works at Blairmore sea wall by the end of 2026.
A councillor voiced concerns that traffic lights remain in place at the site, with an officer saying that he understood that there was inconvenience.
However, the site has been made safe, and it is now hoped that a contractor for a permanent fix could be in place by the end of the year.
The discussion took place at a meeting of Argyll and Bute Council’s Bute and Cowal area committee on Tuesday, September 1.
Councillor William Sinclair (Liberal Democrat, Cowal) said: “On the sea wall at Blairmore, the traffic lights are still there and from what I understand, we are still waiting to have a look at what would be the design to give a contractor to fix this. Is that correct?”
Mark Calder, the council’s project manager, responded: “With the coastal protection works, it is a case of prioritising the works on a risk-based approach. There are temporary measures to make the sea wall safe. We have taken traffic away from the potential work section of the sea wall.
“We understand there is inconvenience, but the wall is safe and the route is open. The team have progressed on a number of schemes which have been more high risk.
“That is not to say we do not want to find a solution. My understanding is that we are awaiting a licence from Marine Scotland and I think there is a 12-week consultation period.
“We are hoping to go to tender and appoint a contractor for permanent works by the end of the year.”
