LOCAL organisation, For Bute, has provided more than 3,000 in donations to local organisations and causes over the past month.
The donations have supported everything from local dancers competing at a world championship to marine conservation and improved safety cover at sporting events.
The Downes Academy of Irish Dance received 600 to assist dancers travelling to Liverpool to take part in the World Championships.
A new organisation, the Bute Bowel and Stoma Support Group, was given 500 to help it begin holding meetings for people with bowel and stoma issues.
The group aims to provide peer support in a friendly and informal setting.
Bute Wheelers, which organises the annual Rothesay Weekend Bike Racing, received 900 towards improved first aid cover for the event and the hire of a race-management motorbike.
This year’s event will take place on September 26 and 27.
Beachwatch Bute SCIO received 500 towards tractor repairs.
The tractor is described as an integral piece of equipment in the work of the beach ranger, helping to monitor and remove marine litter from the shores of the Isle of Bute.
For Bute has also provided 700 to British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) for marine mammal medic rescue kits.
The kits are used by trained first responders in cases involving stranded or injured marine animals, including seals, dolphins, porpoises and whales.
BDMLR responders were involved in dealing with a whale stranding at Ettrick Bay last year.
For Bute said the latest donations demonstrated the range of work being supported through its fundraising efforts.
The charity’s shop is located at 39 Victoria Street in Rothesay and is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
Donations of goods are welcomed and are sold through the shop to raise funds for further support in the community.
For Bute also carries out house clearances, clearing, cleaning and, where required, dressing properties for sale.
In exchange for the contents of the property, For Bute then sells suitable items through its shop to raise funds for its charitable work.
