Cowal Golf Club celebrates Greenkeepers Day

COWAL GOLF Club held its annual Greenkeepers Day last weekend, with a full complement of teams taking to the course to show their appreciation for greenkeeper David Owens.

The event featured a 12-hole Texas Scramble, with greens convenors Gary Jackson and George McDonald responsible for an entertaining ‘Greenkeepers Revenge’ course setup, providing plenty of challenges for competitors.

Honourary life member David Peel was on hand to present the prizes to the winning teams.

Mr Peel also assisted with the draws for the club’s Winter League and Cup, with details of those competitions set to be communicated in due course.

Elsewhere, Cowal Golf Club’s Weir Trophy has been postponed for a second time due of adverse weather.

The event, which was due to take place last weekend, has now been moved to Sunday, October 11.

With the course already wet underfoot and further poor weather forecast, the club is hoping it will be a case of third time lucky.

Greenkeepers Day results: 1, – Finlay Thomas, Arran Downie, Euan Macaulay and JJ Friel; 2, – Ross Mcewan, George McDonald, Reese Mcdonald and Alan Mccourt; 3, – William Darby, Andy Blackwood, Fraser Mackay and William Gillespie.
