AFTER AN incredible 45 years of dedication to Argyll’s library service, library legend Pam Horton is retiring from her role with liveArgyll, leaving behind an inspiring legacy of knowledge, kindness, and exemplary customer service.
Pam’s journey began in 1980 with a Youth Opportunities Programme post at Library Headquarters in Dunoon’s Hunter Street. It was the start of what would become a lifelong career devoted to connecting people with books, learning, and each other.
From typing up colour- coded library cards in her early days to helping oversee major transitions, including the move from Argyll Street Library to the Queen’s Hall in 2018. Pam’s contribution has been immense.
During the challenging pandemic years, Pam was part of the small team who kept services running, ensuring that the joy of reading remained accessible despite restrictions. Her leadership and resilience during that time earned deep respect across the liveArgyll network and in May 2022, Pam took on the role of Business Operations Officer, continuing to share her vast experience and steady guidance with her team.
A spokesperson for liveArgyll said: “Pam is incredibly well thought of, not only within our library service but throughout liveArgyll. She’s a tower of strength and takes with her 45 years of wisdom and warmth that will be deeply
missed. From everyone at liveArgyll and the wider community, thank you, Pam, for your remarkable service. Wishing you a long, happy, and fulfilling retirement.”
As she begins her well- earned retirement, Pam looks forward to plenty of gardening, DIY projects, indoor bowling, and continuingkarate.
