TRAFFIC management works at the Rest and Be Thankful are set to be paused for three months over the summer, a report has said.
The process on the stretch of the A83 will be “shortened” from April to the end of May, and then the measures will be paused to restart on Monday, August 31.
A report from Transport Scotland has also advised community figures in Bute and Cowal of works taking place on other parts of the A83.
The document will go to Argyll and Bute Council’s Bute and Cowal community planning group at its meeting on Tuesday, April 28.
A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: “BEAR have recently completed works on the lower slopes at phase seven, replacing the temporary protection with the installation of ground anchors and mesh across the affected area in order to provide a permanent stabilisation at the location.
“Also, works have taken place to remove slipped material from the drainage system alongside the A83 at Loch Restil, with a new drainage channel also formed down the slope, with a further section being identified above the slope which will need addressed to improve water drainage from the hillside.
“As regards to ongoing traffic management discussions, in order to reduce disruption, the length of traffic management will be shortened from April to the end of May 2026, at which point works will be paused and restarted on August 31, allowing the traffic management to be removed for two-way free flow traffic at the Rest and Be Thankful during the summer holidays.
“Although, whilst the work is paused at the Rest and Be Thankful, additional necessary works near Loch Restil to prevent erosion of the road embankment, as well as any repairs required following the Butterbridge slip on September 1, 2025, will be undertaken.
“These activities will be limited in length and will not require traffic management at the A83 Rest and Be Thankful.”
