Bute BID future questioned

Editor—I read with interest your article on April 7, Bute BID team working to secure a second term.

There are numerous issues that need to be addressed. It is highly likely that Argyll and Bute Council will vote yes for the Bute BID to continue, with multiple votes from all their properties.

It is likely that LiveArgyll will be instructed to do likewise for their properties, like the Dunoon and Oban BIDs. These votes inflate the yes vote and may be against the wishes of local businesses. Should the council be allowed to vote and create a false outcome for genuine island businesses?

How much has been spent by the Bute BID on clerical and managerial salaries versus the revenue collected? The reason for asking is that the last micro-accounts on Companies House were dated June 30, 2025. There is no expenditure information. So where has the levy collected from the business community been spent?

As of April 17, there are only three registered directors of Isle of Bute BID. Is this representative of the Isle of Bute BID business community?

It is noted that Phil Prentice, Scotland’s foremost expert on the BID Programme, is positive about the vibe surrounding a future second term for Bute. What planet is this man on? Is he being paid a consultancy fee by Bute BID?

BIDs, properly managed, can be very successful. However, properly managed is the key to success.

I would ask all Bute business owners to challenge the current Isle of Bute BID Limited and seek answers.
