A ROTHESAY store has won its bid to revive its premises licence after councillors unanimously agreed.

Munchy Corner, in High Street, had been closed by the previous occupants, with its licence to sell alcohol allowed to lapse.

New owner Matthew Reid applied to restore the licence, and it was granted at a meeting of the Argyll and Bute licensing board on Tuesday, November 25.

A report in advance of the meeting said: “Shop selling grocery provisions etc with an ancillary hot food takeaway and alcohol sales.

“The premises are located in the town centre and occupy the ground floor on the corner of a three-storey tenement building. The shop does not share access with any other property within the building.”

Mr Reid told the board: “It is something that has been requested by a few people from the surrounding area, so we are quite keen to get the ball rolling with it.”

Licensing standards officer Ramond Park said: “The premises have in the past been utilised as a licenced grocers.

“The previous owners closed the shop and allowed the licence to lapse, and the new owners are applying for a premises licence.

“The plan shows the display areas, and the area given to alcohol displays is three per cent, which is well within the limits. I think they are ready to go.”

Councillors Graham Hardie (Liberal Democrat, Helensburgh Central) and Amanda Hampsey (Conservative, Oban South and the Isles) stated that they were happy to approve, and the premises licence was unanimously granted.
