Council approves 2.5km forest tracks in Dalavich

FOREST tracks around 2.5km long in Dalavich have been approved by council officials.

Forestry and Land Scotland applied to Argyll and Bute Council regarding the site at Inverliever Forest, with the authority now deciding that prior approval is not needed.

The proposed track is within the amended design plan for woodland management, which was submitted to the council in 2020.

An officer from the authority said in a handling report: “The applicant proposes new sections of ATV forest track measuring approximately 2500m in length within the forest block to allow access for forest management purposes.

“The private ways will be designed and constructed in accordance with Forestry and Land Scotland, Forwarder Track – PN description, September 2019. Materials will be won on site. The constraints data for the site has been checked and none have been highlighted.

“It is considered that the proposed sections of forest track will not have a significant negative impact on the wider environment, which will be well contained within the existing commercial forest.

“The proposed private ways will be constructed to established design standards and will have no materially harmful visual impact upon the site or its wider surroundings. In addition, the proposed development would have no materially harmful impact upon the natural environment and the works are at least 25 metres from the public road and on this basis, there are no objections.

“The proposal is considered to be acceptable in terms of siting and design. The forest is vast and can accommodate the works without any significant visual impact on the character and topography of the existing landscape.”
