COUNCILLORS will continue to consider plans for a private pod to be turned into short-term letting accommodation after concerns were expressed.
Argyll and Bute Council officers had recommended approval for Brian Mangan’s proposal for the facility at Etive Park in North Connel.
But the area’s provost expressed concern that plans to manage potential noise had not yet been submitted, and moved that the planning process should continue.
A majority of councillors backed the suggestion, which could mean that the plans are not ruled on until August, due to the council’s summer recess in July.
The decision was made at a meeting of the council’s planning, protective services and licensing committee on Wednesday, May 20.
The plans have attracted 11 objections and one neutral representation submitted to the council by members of the public.
Councillor Douglas Philand (Independent, Mid Argyll) asked a council planning officer if he had picked up correctly that the operational management plan in terms of noise had not yet been submitted.
The officer responded that it was secured by a planning condition and was also required for the short-term letting process.
Councillor Philand responded: “It concerns me that we will not be able to see [the plan] before being asked to pass it.”
Councillor Liz McCabe (Independent, Isle of Bute) then said: “I am quite happy with what we have heard from [planning officials] today.
“They have covered what needs to be covered. I am aware there is going to be a licence but for planning permission I am happy with what is in front of us.”
She then moved a motion to approve the plans, which was seconded by Councillor Graham Hardie (Liberal Democrat, Helensburgh Central).
Councillor Philand’s amendment to continue the planning process was seconded by Councillor Andrew Kain (Independent, Oban South and the Isles) and prevailed on a roll call vote by nine votes to four.
