ON SATURDAY, April 11, Dunoon Argyll Bowling Club raised their flag to mark the start of the 2026 season.
The weather cleared dry with windy and cold conditions, which allowed the formalities to take place on the green.
President Jim Campbell welcomed members, friends and guests and thanked them for coming along.
After introducing his top table, president Campbell then handed over to Scott Richmond, past president of Kirn & Hunter’s Quay Bowling Club, who spoke on behalf of the kindred clubs. Scott commented on how well the clubhouse and green looked and congratulated the club members for the hard work that had been put in, wishing all at Dunoon Argyll BC well for the season ahead.
The ceremony then moved on to the official opening of the green and Bridie Ferguson took to her feet. As a stalwart of ladies bowls in the Dunoon area, and a close friend of president Campbell’s family, Bridie recognised Dunoon Argyll BC as being in existence for 189 years and concluded by officially opening the green for season 2026.
The first jack and bowls of the season were delivered by Jane Campbell, the president’s wife, after which 24 bowlers played six ends. The first toucher of the season was obtained by Louise McIntosh and the winners were Christine McEwan, Charlotte Lorimer and Steven Girvan. Once the bowling finished, afternoon tea was served and the raffle was drawn.
Dunoon Argyll Bowling Club would like to thank all those who came along, donated home baking and raffle prizes and wishes everyone well for season 2026.
