MEMBERS of the Dunoon Community Shed model railway group showcased their impressive exhibition at one of Scotland’s biggest railway modelling events last weekend.
The group presented their layout, Bishops End, at the Scottish Festival of Railway Modelling held at Braehead Arena, where more than 40 layouts from across the country were on display.
Organisers said Bishops End attracted significant interest from visitors during the event.
The fictional layout depicts a small heritage railway station somewhere in the UK, complete with abandoned platforms and an old goods shed, capturing the atmosphere and detail of a bygone era.
The exhibition marked only the second public outing for the layout, with members of the Community Shed saying they were delighted to have been invited to take part in such a prestigious event.
The Dunoon Community Shed model railway group was formed three years ago and has since grown to more than 18 regular members.
The group has also benefited from generous donations of model railway items from people across Cowal, with many old collections being rediscovered in lofts and garages.
Members say there is very little they cannot repair or refurbish, with restoration work becoming a major part of the group’s activities.
Alongside Bishops End, the group is currently working on a large OO gauge layout featuring a double track stretching around 35 metres in length. A recently donated N gauge layout is also due to undergo refurbishment.
The group meets every Thursday evening from 7pm until 9pm at the Community Shed on Hamilton Street, next door to Fynewood.
Anyone with an interest in model railways is welcome to come along, with the Community Shed also open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10am until 3pm for anyone looking for more information.
