Dunoon Players go retro for new play

DUNOON PLAYERS are performing ‘Abigail’s Party’ by Mike Leigh, at Strachur Memorial Hall on Wednesday October 1, and at Dunoon Burgh Hall on Thursday 2 and Friday, October 3. All the performances

start at 7.30pm.

This darkly comic play was widely seen when it was first on television in 1977 as a ‘play for today’. Audiences can make up their own minds how much has changed since then – house prices, definitely, but attitudes perhaps not so much.

The action takes place at the home of Beverley, (Tracey Bates), and her husband Laurence, (Ian Tyson), whose marriage displays many different emotions, including stormy. They have

invited eager new neighbour Angela, (Wendy Aitken), and her taciturn husband Tony, (Mark Bonsor), to meet Susan, (Julie Forrester), another neighbour whose teenage daughter Abigail is having a party that Susan has been told not to stay home for.

This is the first time Dunoon Players have been ‘on tour’ since their first performance in 2016 at Innellan Village Hall, as the then-named Burgh Hall Players.

Director Roy Beeby is relatively new to Dunoon Players but has plenty of amdram experience. Shirley Haunschmidt will be on hand for continuity.

The production is proudly sponsored by Maids of Sterner Stuff. Tickets are available at £12 from Bookpoint and from Strachur Filling Station, and from Dunoon Burgh Hall via their online ticketing system (plus booking fee).
