Dunoon Police Five's junior's report

Despite the classic Scottish summer weather making an all too familiar appearance, spirits were high as Dunoon Stadium played host to the long-awaited return of the Dunoon police Five-a-Side football and athletic competition.

The historic event, part of the wider Police Five’s weekend, made a triumphant comeback after a six-year absence, with pupils from schools across the local area taking part in a day of energetic competition.

While the rain poured steadily throughout the morning, it did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the young athletesor the large crowd of parents, carers and supporters who packed into the main stand to cheer them on.

In the Primary 4 and 5 age group, spectators were treated to a nail-biting encounter between Kirn Primarys P4 and P5 teams. The match ended 22 after a high-energy performance from both sides, showcasing the impressive talent coming through the ranks. With pride (and bragging rights) on the line, the match went to penalties where the Primary 5s narrowly came out on top, holding their nerve to clinch victory. Full credit to the Primary 4s, who pushed their older schoolmates all the way in what was arguably one of the most entertaining matches of the day.

In the Primary 6 and 7 category, it was Sandbank Primary who emerged victorious, putting in a dominant display to secure a 20 win over Kirn P7s. The match highlighted strong teamwork, disciplined defending, and a couple of truly classy goals.

Organisers hailed the events successful return and with such an encouraging turnout hopes are high that the event will now continue to grow from strength to strength in the years to come, even though Saturdays event was cancelled due to low registration numbers.
