Dunoon's Scottish champion: DABC's Paul claims title for second time

DUNOON Amateur Boxing Club’s Liam Paul has brought home gold in the Scottish Boxing Development C Light Middleweight category, achieving top honours for the second time in his career.

His achievement was made extra special with his young son, Layton, in attendance.

Liam said: “I feel proud of myself for becoming the Scottish champion for a second time.

“Having a new born and training is definitely difficult but I’m glad the hard work paid off. Having Layton there watching made it that bit more special. I’m Looking forward for what’s next.”

A spokesperson for DABC commented: “We are delighted with the result.

“Liam’s performance was just outstanding and we’re excited to see what Liam will achieve this year – he has been training hard. Liam has the skill and determination to excel this year and we cant wait to see it.

“This is the sixth Scottish title for the club and we are proud of the direction the club is going, it’s getting better and better and we just love and appreciate great community support.

“This is a fabulous start to the year and we can wait to see what the rest of the year brings.”

They continued: “We would like to thank to all the DABC and the community who came along to support.

“A shoutout to Jordan & Karen, our volunteer coaches, who for the last two weekends were up at 5.30am to get Liam there and ready to fight.

“We cant forget a special mention to Liam’s sponsors Eddie Paul Joiners and Building Contractors and club sponsors C&S Contractors and Fyne Raja Restaurant.”

And head coach, Jordan, echoed that sentiment, adding that Liam took all they’d worked on in the past year into the bout.

Jordan said: “We knew we were going up against a tough club who had excellent results through the years and put the pressure on.

“However, Liam performs well under pressure. It was a tough fight, Liam kept calm studied and worked out his opponent and took the gold.

“Liam took some time away from the sport to start his own roofing company and welcome his first baby, but he is back motivated and ready.”

Jordan is also pleased with the situation DABC find themselves in as they aim to give back to the community.

He added: “It all started with Mr. Jimmy McQueen and will be passed on for generations to come.”
