DRIVERS in Cowal are being encouraged to sharpen their road safety skills this month by taking part in a free ‘Night Driving’ session at Dunoon Community Fire Station.
The event — part of the Road Smart Road Safety Hubs: Driving Change initiative — takes place on Saturday, November 22, from 10.30am to noon, and aims to help motorists master the challenges of driving after dark.
Run in partnership with IAM RoadSmart, Police Scotland, and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the session will focus on key risks such as headlight glare, fatigue, and unseen hazards that make night driving particularly dangerous during the winter months.
Attendees will learn practical tips to improve visibility, reduce glare, and recognise the signs of tiredness behind the wheel. Local officers and road safety experts will also be on hand to answer questions and offer guidance on staying safe in challenging conditions.
A spokesperson for the organisers said the initiative is designed to make road safety advice accessible to everyone: “Night-time driving brings unique risks, especially on rural roads. Simple steps like adjusting your lights, cleaning your windscreen, and knowing when to rest can make all the difference.”
The session is free to attend, with drivers welcome to drop in on the day or register in advance using the QR code. The Night Driving Road Safety Hub will be held at Dunoon Community Fire Station, Union Street, and all local motorists are encouraged to attend.
