COLGLEN made their return to An Aird on Saturday, April 11, as they took on Premiership stalwarts, Fort William.
The hosts have significant Premiership pedigree, but the Glen were not afraid of their opponents after going unbeaten during their National Division campaigns in 2023 and 2024 on their travels there.
And they started brightly, creating a number of chances in the opening 20 minutes. Cally, Sam, Neily McNaughton and Marcus Keith linked up well in attack while the midfield worked hard to control possession, all whilst being supported by Auryn Kerr at the point of defence. Scott MacVicar slotted in at full back, with Jack Whyte organising well from goals.
Despite controlling large spells, ColGlen went into the break 1–0 down, conceding with the final touch of the first-half.
The second-half followed a similar pattern, with ColGlen continuing to press but struggling to truly test the opposition keeper. There was a welcome return for local Colintraive man, Angus Sinclair, who came on as a second-half substitute, while Sandy Paterson also made his Premiership debut and made a solid contribution.
On 76 minutes, a breakaway saw Jack Whyte produce an excellent one-on-one save, only for the rebound to fall kindly to an onrushing striker who finished to make it 2–0.
Overall, it was a very promising performance from the Glen, with clear signs of squad depth as the team continues to adapt to injuries and farming commitments.
Man of the Match for the team went to Jack Whyte, as the team prepare for another game on the road against Newtonmore this weekend – throw up at 2.30pm.
