Have your say on Aldi’s £9.7m Dunoon store plans

A PUBLIC consultation event on the proposal for an Aldi supermarket at the old gasworks site on Hamilton Street, Dunoon will take place later this month.

The discount food retailer announced in December its plans for a new £9.7 million store that would create up to 35 local jobs, alongside further employment during construction and across the Aldi supply chain.

A drop-in consultation event will take place on Thursday, January 22, from 3pm to 7pm, at The Queen’s Hall. Local residents are invited to view the plans, speak with members of the project team, and share their feedback.

Commenting on the plans, Andy Doyle, Real Estate Director at Aldi said: “We look forward to sharing our proposals for a new store on Hamilton Street with the Dunoon community. We would encourage anyone with an interest to come along, view the plans, ask questions of the project team, and provide feedback.

“We are confident these proposals will deliver real benefits for Dunoon. The redevelopment of this long-term vacant brownfield site in the heart of the town will provide access to a discount retailer offering high-quality, affordable groceries, while supporting the local economy through the creation of up to 35 jobs, alongside further employment during construction and across our wider supply chain.

“We are excited to discuss the plans in more detail and hear directly from residents ahead of submitting a planning application to Argyll and Bute Council.”

The proposal for the new supermarket in Dunoon also included landscaping plans to enhance the appearance of the site at Hamilotn Street, as well as fast and rapid EV charging points with capacity for future expansion.

A dedicated project website, (aldiconsultation.co.uk/Dunoon), has been established to showcase the plans and give the community an opportunity to provide feedback if they are unable to attend the event.
