ONE of Kyles Athletic’s most influential figures has announced his retirement from the game after years of service on the pitch.

Roddy MacDonald has announced he’s stepping back from playing at 37-years-old after a hugely successful stint at the club.

Among many top honours, one of Macdonald’s biggest achievements was captaining the Scottish shinty side, alongside lifting the Camanachd Cup with Kyles.

But MacDonald has lifted his Camanachd for the last time as he steps away from the sport as a Kyles legend.

On the retirement, head coach Grant Profit said: “Roddy made the decision to take a step back. He will be assisting and taking the fitness of the squad for the season.

“He’s a person the boys all look up to and respect. He has contributed so much to Kyles for a good chunk of his life and will be sorely missed member of the squad.”
