AN Oban retreat has been awarded planning permission to change its use from a guest house and single home to a hotel.
Glencruitten House was awarded a provisional premises licence by the Argyll and Bute licensing board in June as part of developments planned for the site.
Now Argyll and Bute Council officers have agreed to Paul Sebright’s plans for the change of use, after no representations were received from the public during the planning process.
A separate application for listed building consent to make internal changes remains under consideration by officials of the authority.
An officer said in a handling report: “Glencruitten House is a category B listed building located in an elevated position set within extensive tiered mature garden grounds on the outskirts of the main town centre of Oban.
“As existing Glencruitten House has permission for six guest house bedrooms within a 14-bedroom house. The subject of this planning application is seeking a change of use.
“The proposed change of use with internal alterations will subsequently add five letting bedrooms to the currently permitted six, while reducing the overall bedroom numbers by three to 11. The reduction in bedroom numbers is achieved by the formation of en suite bathroom facilities.
“No change to the existing access or infrastructure arrangements currently serving the site are proposed by this application.
“Notwithstanding the proposed internal alterations which are the subject of a separate application for listed building consent, the proposed change of use is considered to be an acceptable proposal and one which will not give rise to any adverse privacy or amenity issues given the containment within the application site; where, as existing Glencruitten House partially operates as a guest house.”
