Oban Livestock Centre site gets planning approval

PLANS for a workshop, storage building and office accommodation at an Oban site have been granted permission.

AH Contractors made the application to Argyll and Bute Council for the site southwest of the town’s Livestock Centre.

No representations, expressing objection or support, were received by the authority during the planning process, and the go-ahead has now been given for the proposal.

A council officer said in a handling report: “Internally the proposed building will provide storage/workshop space at ground floor level with a small retail element and staff welfare facilities.

“Within the mezzanine area at upper floor level the building will provide office accommodation and further staff welfare facilities.

“Whilst it is acknowledged that the site extends outwith the designated EBIA (established business and industry area), with approximately two thirds of the site encroaching into the CA (countryside area), it is considered that there is a clear, functional link with the established OLC (Oban Livestock Centre) and wider EBIA with the encroachment into the CA kept to a minimum by the siting of the proposed development as close to the OLC as possible.

“The proposed building is considered to be of a suitable form, scale, design and finishes for its context which would ensure that it would not detract from the appearance of the site or its setting within the wider EBIA.”

The official added: “It is considered that the proposed industrial building is an appropriate development which aligns with the overarching spatial principles and policies contained within [National Planning Framework 4 and Local Development Plan 2] being a development which will create job opportunities and promote economic growth.

“No objections have been received from consultees with regards to the proposed infrastructure to serve the proposed development.”
