More than 2,500 older people in Argyll and Bute have received financial support from a new disability payment.
Pension Age Disability Payment replaces Attendance Allowance in Scotland and is for people of State Pension age with care needs because of a disability, long-term health condition or terminal illness. It is worth between £295 and £441 a month depending on the needs of the person who gets it.
Argyll and Bute was one of the first pilot areas to receive Pension Age Disability Payment when it launched in October last year. The payment became available across Scotland in April 2025.
New figures published, which go up to 31 October – providing a full year of data -show that 2,570 people in Argyll and Bute have received vital support from Pension Disability Payment totalling over £4.2 million.
Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Shirley-Anne Somerville said: “Pension Age Disability Payment is a vital means of support for older people in Scotland.
“It is crucial that older people who are disabled, terminally ill or have a long-term health condition and have care needs get the money they need to help them look after themselves, stay safe in their homes and live with dignity.
“I’m pleased that Pension Age Disability Payment is already supporting so many people and I would encourage anyone who thinks they could be eligible to apply.”
