Plans lodged for banking hub signage in Helensburgh

PLANS have been lodged for signage for a banking hub at the building currently occupied by Bank of Scotland in Helensburgh.

Documents submitted with the application by Cash Access UK show the signs planned for the premises at 26 Colquhoun Square.

Bank of Scotland is due to close on Thursday, March 5, having been the last High Street banking branch in the town.

A representative of Cash Access UK told councillors and community figures last week of plans for a banking hub in Helensburgh, with a lease agreement yet to be signed.

Argyll and Bute Council is expected to rule on the application for the signage by mid-April, with the public now able to view the plans and submit feedback.

No design or planning statement has been published as yet, but drawings show that the building is earmarked for a banking hub.

Speaking at the meeting of the council’s Helensburgh and Lomond community planning group on Monday, February 2, Cash Access UK regional manager Lesley Wilson said: “What has been recommended here is a banking hub with an ATM. We always strive for an external ATM, so that there is 24-hour access to cash.

“The last bank in town cannot close until you have a cash solution in place, so our service has to be up and running prior to the last bank shutting in March.

“Within the hub we have counter service and a community banker service. The counter service is available to anybody and it does not matter who you bank with, and is available Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

“We run that in collaboration with the Post Office, who have access to one banking system.

“The community banker service is where a representative from a particular bank is present within the hub on an allocated day.

“We have identified a property in Helensburgh. The lease is not signed as yet, but we are hoping to take it over.”
