SNP sets out election agenda as Jenni Minto addresses local impact

MSP for Argyll and Bute, Jenni Minto, has welcomed what she described as a message of hope and opportunity set out by First Minister John Swinney as the party outlined its priorities ahead of the Holyrood election on May 7.

Speaking last week, Mr Swinney highlighted improvements in NHS performance and schools, record levels of business investment, and falling child poverty, while acknowledging the continued economic pressures facing households. He argued that Scotland is making progress despite decisions taken at Westminster.

The First Minister also pointed to major events on the horizon, including the return of the Commonwealth Games to Glasgow and Scotland’s participation in the FIFA men’s World Cup. He suggested that 2026 could be a significant year for the country, including a proposal for a bank holiday following Scotland’s first World Cup match.

At the SNP’s first election event of the year, the party said Scotland should both celebrate its achievements and look ahead to what it could become, reiterating its long-held position that independence would allow for lower living costs, reduced fuel poverty, and greater use of Scotland’s energy resources for the benefit of its people.

Ms Minto said people across Argyll and Bute could see progress being made under SNP leadership in public services, the economy, and support for families.

She said the forthcoming election was about choosing a future where decisions are made in Scotland and ensuring the country’s energy wealth works for local communities.

Ms Minto added that the SNP was offering what she described as trusted leadership and a positive vision for Scotland, including continued efforts towards independence, which she said would allow Scotland to take its place on the world stage as a prosperous European nation.
