Step into history as new exhibition blooms at Benmore Botanic Garden

VISITORS to Benmore Botanic Garden are being invited to journey through more than 300 years of plant history as a new summer exhibition opens at the Courtyard Gallery.

Following the success of its spring exhibitions Forgotten Fleece Tales and Linocut Art with Deb Wing, Benmore is now hosting its third exhibition of the season, Pressed for Time.

The exhibition explores the fascinating stories behind the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh’s internationally important herbarium collection — home to three million preserved plant and fungi specimens documenting centuries of biodiversity.

Through the exhibition, visitors can discover how

specimens collected across the world and throughout history continue to support vital scientific research today, including efforts to protect and restore biodiversity in the face of modern environmental challenges.

Pressed for Time takes visitors on a journey across time, land and sea, revealing the hidden stories preserved within the collection and highlighting the role these historic specimens could play in shaping the future of conservation.

The exhibition is open daily at the Courtyard Gallery until August 31 and includes activity and colouring sheets for younger visitors.

Alongside the exhibition, Benmore’s summer programme continues with

seasonal guided walks every Tuesday and Sunday at 2pm, giving visitors the chance to explore the garden at one of its most colourful times of year.

Current highlights include collections of Cornus kousa, late-flowering Magnolia and Iris, which are all currently in bloom.

On July 9, visitors can also join Wild About the Flowers with Phil Lusby, Research Associate at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, who will lead a leisurely walk exploring the variety of wildflowers found throughoutBenmoreBotanic Garden.

Further details about the exhibition, garden and upcoming events can be found on the Benmore Botanic Garden website.
