STRACHUR-DUNOON bowe d out of the Sutherland Cup after a 4-1 defeat away to Kyles Athletic, despite a spirited second-half response in a frustrating afternoon for the side.

The South Division One side made the brighter start and were quickly on the front foot, taking control of the game with two well-taken goals from Conor Guidici and Ollie MacVicar as Kyles settled into their rhythm early on.

Strachur-Dunoon, missing several key players, initially struggled to impose themselves but gradually worked their way into the contest. By the latter stages of the first-half they had begun to find some fluency, stringing together neat passages of play that put the home defence under pressure.

That improvement was rewarded when Roddy Cairns found himself through one-on-one with the Kyles goalkeeper, calmly finishing to pull Strachur-Dunoon back into the tie and give the visitors renewed belief heading into the break.

The visitors carried that momentum into the second-half and started brightly after the restart, competing well and showing intent. However, the turning point came around the hour mark when injuries disrupted their structure and rhythm.

With Strachur-Dunoon forced into adjustments, Kyles Athletic took full advantage, eventually adding two further goals through a Logan Sim double to put the tie beyond doubt and secure progression.

Despite the scoreline, there were positives for Strachur-Dunoon to take from the performance. Kyles Athletic ultimately proved to be deserving winners on the day, and Strachur-Dunoon wished them well in the next round of the competition.

There was also recognition for an outstanding individual performance, with goalkeeper Nathan Morris named man of the match after a string of excellent saves kept his side in the game for long periods.
