STRACHUR-DUNOON made it three wins from three at the start of their 2026 campaign with an emphatic 5–0 victory away to Aberdour on Saturday.

The Cowal side travelled to Silversands knowing it had been a difficult venue in recent years, but they produced a commanding display to sweep aside their hosts.

There were a number of changes to the starting line-up, with Sandy Paterson returning, Spencer Thoms back in the side and Ken Lawns also making his comeback. Sorley Inall was handed his first start at wing-centre, while Ewan MacDonald came out of retirement to take his place in goals.

With a strong wind at their backs, Strachur-Dunoon started brightly and quickly put Aberdour under pressure.

The breakthrough came after ten minutes when Brandon Wilson fired a superb effort into the roof of the net following good work down the wing. The visitors soon doubled their advantage as Thoms grabbed his first goal of the season with a deflected finish.

Wilson added his second and Strachur-Dunoon’s third around the half-hour mark before Roddy Cairns made it four in style, producing a clever turn in the box before flicking the ball beyond the goalkeeper to give his side a commanding lead at the interval.

Aberdour came out stronger in the second half, aided by the wind, but the Strachur-Dunoon defence stood firm to keep their opponents at bay.

After weathering the pressure, the visitors regained control and added a fifth goal, with Cairns netting again to round off an impressive afternoon.

Aberdour prevented the scoreline from becoming even more emphatic thanks to a series of fine saves from their goalkeeper, but Strachur-Dunoon were well worth their victory.

On the win, player/manager Andrew Rossi said: “It was another good result for us against a determined Aberdour side in tough conditions at Silversands.

“We were missing two of our starting forwards, but the squad adapted well and, with the wind behind us in the first-half, we used it to build a strong lead. Playing into the wind after the break was really difficult and Aberdour put us under a bit of pressure, but the boys kept their focus and discipline to see the game out, with Roddy Cairns grabbing his second goal to make it 5–0. Trips to Silversands have historically been a mixed bag for us, so we’re delighted with the result and the attitude and effort from the players.”

Man of the Match went to Brandon Wilson, whose all-round performance – including two goals – proved decisive.

The result keeps Strachur-Dunoon’s perfect start to the season intact, and they will look to continue that run when they return to home action against Tayforth on April 25.
