Young volunteers give back over Easter through GIVE programme

YOUNG people in Dunoon spent their Easter school break giving back to the community through the popular GIVE programme run by liveArgyll Youth Work Cowal and Cowal Youth Action Group.
GIVE – Get Inspired, Volunteer, Engagement – sees young people earn reward trips through volunteering, buying experiences with their time rather than money.
The programme began with plans for a beach clean, but with local beaches looking in good condition after the Easter weekend, the group turned their attention to Dunoon’s Rose Gardens, collecting almost six bags of litter.
Their efforts were rewarded with a trip to Braehead, where the group enjoyed ten-pin bowling at GRID, followed by shopping, with some memorable bowling techniques reportedly on display.
The young people also took part in a workshop led by local police engagement officer PC Rachael Wells as part of the Quit Fighting for Likes initiative.
The scenario-based session explored online harms and the impact of social media on young people’s mental health and relationships, while encouraging safer online behaviours.
During the second week of the programme, the group visited Ardnahein Care Facility for an afternoon of intergenerational activity, including bingo with residents and time spent chatting and sharing stories.
Organisers said the visit was a rewarding experience for the young people, offering an opportunity to connect across generations and learn from one another.
Following their volunteering at Ardnahein, the group enjoyed a reward trip to Gravity Trampoline Park at Braehead, followed by time at the shopping centre.
The GIVE programme continues to combine community action with personal development and positive experiences for young people in Cowal.
