LOCAL SNP MSP Jenni Minto has highlighted that Social Security Scotland’s Scottish Child Payment is supporting 3,970 children and young people in Argyll and Bute.
Newly published figures show that 322,230 children across Scotland were actively benefiting from the Scottish Child Payment at the end of September.
Launched in February 2021 by the SNP Scottish Government, the Scotland-only benefit gives families with low incomes crucial financial support to help with the cost of raising children.
Thanks to the Scottish Child Payment, along with other measures such as the Baby Box and Best Start support, Scotland is the only part of the UK where child poverty levels are falling thanks to action taken by the SNP in government.
SNP MSP Jenni Minto said: “Under John Swinney’s leadership, the SNP Scottish Government has made eradicating child poverty its top priority. The Scottish Child Payment is making a real difference for families in Argyll and Bute. With 3,970 children locally benefitting, this support is helping to put money directly into the pockets of families to cover the essential costs of raising children.
“Thanks to SNP policies such as the Scottish Child Payment, the Best Start Grant and the Baby Box, Scotland is the only part of the UK where child poverty is falling.
“The Labour Party’s failure to take similar action makes it clearer than ever that Scotland needs the fresh start of independence to create a wealthier and fairer country.”
