PLANS for a Rosneath shop to become a takeaway have been granted approval by council officers.
Nabechian Tharmarasa’s proposal for shop unit two at Ferry Road was submitted to Argyll and Bute Council in March, with the go-ahead now given after no feedback was expressed by the public.
The premises was most recently used as a retail shop, but currently lies vacant. The application is for a partial change of use of the building.
A council officer said in a handling report: “Following a detailed assessment the proposed development is located within an identified settlement area with close access to public transport networks, and is compatible with the provisions of National Planning Framework policy one in terms of addressing the climate crisis, in principle.
“The site is located within an established mixed-use area and will not impact upon the character and amenity of the area.
“It is confirmed that the neighbouring unit is an existing hot food take away, however, this application seeks to introduce a small element of hot food takeaway to the rear of the retail shop equating to 25 per cent of the overall unit.
“It is not considered that the proposal would undermine the health and wellbeing of this community given the scale and the wider context and it is also noted that this application would bring a vacant unit back into active use which is beneficial to the wider community.”
The report added: “It is noted that environmental health were consulted on the application and have noted that they have no objection subject to conditions relating to the restriction of deliveries during quiet times, additional information regarding potential cooking odours and mitigation of noise during construction.”
