Bizet on Bute

he Bute Arts Society is delighted to warm up a winter evening with an exhilarating concert from the charismatic CarmenCo Trio,

The performance will take place on Friday, December 6 at the Isle of Bute Parish Church at 7.30pm.

The “Pocket Opera” performance of Spanish and Spanish-inspired music is presented as a play, roughly following the story of Bizet’s opera, Carmen, but told from her point of view.

What does she think of the men in her story? Did she foresee her gruesome ending? And does she like the opera that was written about her?

With sell-out performances all over the UK, the trio, comprising of a flute and two guitars, will have the audience highly entertained. At some moments, laughing out loud, at others, listening with absolute silence to the immersive and evocative music, which everyone is likely to recognise and enjoy.

A brilliantly accessible and fun way to present classical music, CarmenCo’s Pocket Opera is the must-see show of 2024.

Critics have praised the show highly.

“An unusual, highly entertaining evening… The three first-rate musicians rose to the challenge of acting and dancing as well as musical performance… Superb range of musical colour and artistry throughout the programme”

The performers will play by memory, allowing them to act, dance and interact with the audience, creating an interactive experience which will be as much loved by those new to opera as much as those for whom Carmen is a firm favourite.

CarmenCo is an ensemble comprising of Emily Andrews, flautist/mezzo; David Massey and Francisco Correa, guitars.

Formed in 2017, the prizewinning trio has performed all over England, Scotland and Wales, honing a distinctive approach and performing original arrangements of orchestral pieces, opera, folk and world music.

They have appeared at The Wigmore Hall, St Martin in the Fields, Kings Place and in Germany, Italy and Sweden.

All of the players have had distinguished careers so far and, once again, the Bute Arts Society is offering a thrilling evening with musicians of the highest calibre, as part of its varied and eclectic annual programme.
