LOCAL children had the chance to meet their real-life heroes as Police Scotland’s community policing team engaged with young residents at ButeFest and Apple Tree Nursery.

At ButeFest, the officers brought their best festival spirit and their cell van to interact with families attending the event.

Young festival-goers enthusiastically explored the Jailhouse, learning more about police work in a relaxed and friendly setting.

Later on, the team paid a special visit to Apple Tree Nursery, where officers taught the children about the importance of wearing a seatbelt and gave a fun, hands-on introduction to the role of a police constable.

The kids explored police equipment, tried on uniform items, and got to see the blue lights flashing on the van a highlight for many.

In a statement on social media, a spokesperson from the team said: “It’s never too early to start the recruitment process.

“Engaging with our youngest community members is a vital part of our role.

“It helps build trust, teaches safety from an early age, and hopefully inspires future officers.

“The team’s efforts are part of a wider strategy to strengthen relationships between the police and local communities across Cowal and Bute.
