STRONE House was bought in 2012 as a derelict property. In better times it had been used as home for two families whilst the ground floor was the showroom for Scottish products including kilts and skirts, made to measure in Strone Lodge.
When this enterprise closed the house was sold and subsequently fell into a desperate state of disrepair.
Built for a Glasgow shipping magnate around 1850 it is a prestigious listed building which stands in a prominent position overlooking the meeting of three lochs with across the water to the nearby Arrochar Alps.
Despite it being an almost overwhelming task the owners were determined to save the house. However, being a listed building it came with its own drawbacks such as having to use an historic architect. There were many pitfalls, sleepless nights and tears along the way.
The new owner of Strione House said: “It took 10 years of hard work to accomplish my goal but with the help my tremendous staff we made it.”
She added: “The property offers exclusive use of house and grounds and is available to host any memorable event in your life. Accommodation for sixteen to eighteen guests in luxury en-suite bedrooms, spacious lounges and kitchen and dining rooms. It has been sympathetically restored to accommodate modern living but retains much of the original charm with many beautiful antiques throughout.
“Within the landscaped gardens there is a pixie hut and children’s play area and for the grown up children there is a games room with table tennis and pool tables. We have recently hosted a retreat in the house and the new meditation suite.”
If you would like to see the transformation there will be a special open house day on September 7 between noon and 4pm, incorporating a Wedding Fair.
