TOWARD Seasports Club’s Arran Series came to a close with a final Thursday race sailed in sunshine and a light north-westerly breeze last week.
With the conditions favouring course two, the slower-handicap boats got away first, heading upwind towards the first mark.
The breeze was shifty throughout the race, moving around from different directions. By the time the faster boats started, the wind had shifted to give them a more direct route to the mark.
Sgaden, helmed by L Mylod, quickly established a lead and maintained it to the finish. It was another victory for Sgaden, which has dominated the series and proved difficult for the rest of the fleet to catch.
Still Game and Parallel Motion both put in strong efforts, working their way through the fleet in an attempt to close the gap, but neither could overhaul Sgaden in the time available.
Further back, the Hunter boats enjoyed a close battle of their own, sailing in close company until Toots managed to move into the lead.
Final results: 1, – Sgaden (L. Mylod); 2, – Still Game (K. McDonald); 3, – Parallel Motion (A. Marshall).
Friday evening saw the club’s skiff back on the water, with several crews taking advantage of calm conditions and light winds to get some practice in.
Later in the evening, the kayakers followed with their regular weekly session, making the most of the settled conditions.
With the Arran Series now complete, the Toward Seasports Club can look back on another season of racing and activity on the water.
