BUTE Highland Games chairman Billy Shields has paid tribute to the volunteers, sponsors, local businesses, competitors and crowds who helped make this year’s event a memorable success.
With the sun shining and crowds turning out in good spirits, competitors delivered a spectacular day of Highland sport and entertainment, showcasing skill, energy and professionalism across the programme.
Mr Shields also praised the Games chieftain, Maureen Beattie OBE, for her contribution throughout the day, including presenting prizes, supporting competitors and posing for what he joked must have been hundreds of photographs.
However, he stressed that the success of the Games depended heavily on the dedication of a small but determined team of volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes.
He said: “Behind the colour, music and excitement of Games day sits a huge amount of work, particularly for a small community like ours.”
The Games receive no financial support from the local council, meaning organisers must cover the cost of using the park and facilities, including the grandstand, litter collection and road race licences.
There are also significant expenses associated with hiring marquees, supporting the organisations responsible for athletics, pipe bands and Highland dancing, as well as prize money, trophies, medical provision, catering and other essential services.
Mr Shields said the committee works hard to keep ticket prices as low as possible while ensuring the event breaks even and can continue to be staged in future years.
He added: “I sincerely hope everyone who attended felt they enjoyed excellent value for money.”
The chairman has already encouraged supporters to make a date for next year, with the 2027 Bute Highland Games scheduled for Saturday, August 21.
Organisers will once again look forward to welcoming visitors for a day celebrating tradition.
