Improvement works on the A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful are set to resume next week, with traffic controls returning to the route following a festive pause.
BEAR Scotland, acting on behalf of Transport Scotland, has confirmed that temporary traffic signals and a 30mph speed limit will be reinstated from Monday, January 12, as the next phase of essential works gets under way.
The initial traffic management will be located at Cobbler Bridge, where crews will carry out landslide barrier maintenance and drainage works. Once that stage is complete, the traffic controls will move north to allow further slope stabilisation and ongoing maintenance of the landslide barriers, including emptying and repairs.
Due to the nature of the work, temporary traffic signals will be in operation 24 hours a day. The current phase of the project is expected to continue through to early summer.
BEAR Scotland has confirmed that access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained throughout the works.
Euan Scott, BEAR Scotland’s North West Unit Representative, said the improvements are vital for the long-term resilience of the A83.
“These works are all essential improvements to ensure resilience of the A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful,” he said. “We are pleased with the progress made so far and our crews will continue working with safety as our top priority.
“We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we carry out these essential works.”
