Aldi reveals £9.7m plan for new Dunoon store

DISCOUNT SUPERMARKET giant Aldi has unveiled plans for a new multi-million pound store in Dunoon – promising dozens of jobs and a landmark investment in the town.

The retailer is proposing a £9.7 million development on Hamilton Street, at the old gas works site, which it says would create up to 35 jobs, alongside further employment during construction and throughout its wider supply chain.

The plans include a modern food store with an overall sales area of 1,353sqm and a net retail sales area of 1,229sqm, featuring what the company describes as a high- quality design.

The proposed development would also see landscaping to improve the look of the site and the installation of fast and rapid EV charging points, along with infrastructure to support additional chargers in future.

Aldi says the new store would offer greater choice and value for shoppers in Dunoon and the surrounding area, while bringing significant new investment into the local economy.

Commenting on the plans, Andy Doyle, real estate director at Aldi said: “We are delighted to announce our proposals for a new store in Dunoon. We hope to increase our presence in Argyll and Bute and have been inundated by requests for a new store in Dunoon.

“A new store would significantly improve access to affordable, high- quality produce and everyday essentials, while also supporting the local economy. Our proposals represent a £9.7 million investment, creating up to 35 new jobs and

supporting additional employment through construction and the wider supply chain. We are excited about the opportunity to expand our presence and continue serving communities across Scotland.

“As part of this process, we will be hosting a consultation event in the new year to showcase proposals to the local community ahead of submitting a planning application to Argyll and Bute Council.”

Aldi’s consultation event will gather views and feedback from the local community. Details of the proposed store will also be made available on a dedicated project website, which will also be launched in the new year.
