ALTHOUGH it’s perhaps not the best known walk on Bute, the circular walk taking in Meikle Kilmory, Ballycurrie and the Straad, has some great views of St Ninian’s Bay, Inchmarnock and over to Arran.
Over 20 years ago the Bute Conservation Trust put a bridge over the burn that runs beyond the Inchmarnock slipway, but two decades of weather and footfall has taken its toll with anti-slip netting wearing through and support posts rotting.
On Saturday, June 6, a work party of the conservation volunteers got to grips with the problems, replacing the netting and installing new posts where required.
As well as the bridge being repaired and readied to face the next 20 years, the nearby style had rotted and become unsafe. This was replaced by two members of the conservation volunteers and the steps were netted on the Saturday.
For those tackling the walk it should be remembered that the path follows the line of the edge of the field up towards the Kilmory cottage and at the end of the field a track takes you up onto the road.
