CAMPBELTOWN’S Victoria Hall is set for a facelift after plans for renovations to its façade were given the go-ahead.
New paint work, and the removal and replacement of signage, were among the works proposed for the premises on Kinloch Road.
Argyll and Bute Council received no feedback from the public, expressing objection or support, during the planning process, and planning permission has now been awarded.
A council officer said in a handling report: “The proposed works are required to enhance the appearance and condition of the building by retaining and upgrading existing features and improving the building’s visual coherence through high-quality repair and redecoration.
“The building is sited in a prominent street position within the Conservation Area and the building at present has a façade which does not positively enhance the designation.
“The proposal would not have an adverse impact on the character of setting of surrounding listed buildings. The proposed works will improve the building’s contribution to the character and appearance of the conservation area.”
A supporting statement lodged with the application said of the new paint work: “The proposed colour scheme has been chosen to improve the building’s visual relationship with neighbouring properties and remains in line with other façade upgrades carried out in the town.
“The existing colours bear no historical significance and have changed multiple times since being rebuilt with no clear consistency over the years.
“The choice of Keim has been made to ensure longevity of finishes, as can be seen throughout Campbeltown with other projects carried out over the last 10-15 years with Keim paints that have required little to no maintenance.”
It added on the new signage: “Proposed replacement with 3D letter signage aims to be more visually appealing and readable while not appearing distractingly modern.”
