TWO major car crashes happened over the Christmas period in Dunoon, with one of the incidents leaving an obstruction for motorists for over 24 hours.
On Christmas Day, shortly before noon, there was a two-vehicle crash involving a car and a Volkswagen Transporter van on the A815 in Hunters Quay.
The smash left the van with significant front-end damage, including the driver’s side wheel, which was left sitting at an abnormal angle, suggesting a heavy frontal collision, and the vehicle was deemed unsafe to drive.
Emergency services struggled to locate a vehicle recovery service to move the van off the road, so the vehicle remained on Marine Parade for over 24 hours, causing a significant obstacle for drivers travelling on Christmas Day.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.45am on Thursday, December 25, we were called to a report of a two-vehicle crash in the Marine Parade area of Hunters Quay. Officers attended and a 47-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with road traffic offences. He is due to appear at court at a later date. A report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Then, on Monday afternoon, a car travelling on Mary Street collided with a parked vehicle and ended up on its roof. Emergency services were forced to close off the section of road to the public for a few hours.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 12.20pm on Monday, December 29, to a report of a crash involving a car and a parked vehicle on St Mary Street, Dunoon. Emergency services attended and the driver of the car, a woman, was taken to hospital to be checked over.”
