Community garden project transforms Dunoon

A COMMUNITY garden project which has transformed a Dunoon space into a welcoming place for food growing, learning and connection is preparing to celebrate its second anniversary.

Grow Food Grow Dunoon will hold an open day on Saturday, June 13, from 10am until 3pm in the grounds of Struan Lodge Residential and Daycare Service on Bencorrum Brae.

The event will celebrate two years of work by a dedicated team of local volunteers who have helped create an inclusive community garden where people can come together to grow food and share skills.

Martin Gerrish, lead volunteer at Grow Food Grow Dunoon, said the group was looking forward to welcoming visitors back into the garden.

He said: “After two years of building and creating this lovely community garden, we are delighted to be opening the gates once more for an open day.

“Much has happened in the past year and the volunteers are looking forward to sharing the garden and all its new features.”

The family-friendly event will include guided tours of the garden, a treasure hunt, vintage tractors, a bottle tombola and a raffle with prizes.

Visitors will also be able to browse a plant and produce sale, enjoy gardening talks and watch a demonstration of a solar cooker.

Entertainment will be provided throughout the day, with live music from Just Dance Dunoon and The Ardentinny Tootlers, while refreshments will be available from the Struan Lodge kitchen team.

Grow Food Grow Dunoon is a volunteer-led community garden project supported by Dunoon Community Development Trust.

Due to limited parking at Struan Lodge, visitors are encouraged to use Dunoon Stadium car park. Signs will direct people along the path past the skate park to Sanderson Drive and towards the garden entrance.
