Council approves three new homes near Oban

COUNCIL officials have awarded planning permission for three new homes at an Oban site.

MacLeod Construction Ltd’s proposal was for a site southwest of Glenshellach Farm, which has no previous planning history.

One neutral representation from the public was received by Argyll and Bute Council during the planning process, with the application now formally approved.

A council officer said: “The proposed dwellinghouses are modest, pitched roof structures with those proposed on plots 1 and 2 one and a half storey structures with a single storey structure proposed on plot 3.

“The application shows a scheme of landscaping along the boundaries of the site which, together with the existing trees along the rear boundary of the site, will help integrate the dwellinghouses within the site and the wider landscape. The finer details and timing for the proposed landscaping will be sought by planning conditions.

“The LVA (landscape visual assessment) submitted in support of the proposal considers the visual impact of the proposed development on the existing landscape character of the area and its relationship with the established settlement pattern of the wider area.

“The LVA, in summary, acknowledges that whilst the proposal will result in a change to the existing landscape, it is considered that the impact will be minimum.

“Due to the limited value of the site as rough grasslands the LVA deems the sensitivity of change to the landscape to be low with the overall magnitude of change following construction and landscaping to be negligible.”

The officer added: “Officers are satisfied, following their own detailed assessment of all material planning considerations and review of the LVA, that the application adequately demonstrates that the site represents an appropriate opportunity for the proposed dwellinghouses.”
